Wichita man pleads guilty to running over police officer

A Wichita man has pleaded guilty to charges relating to an incident that left a police officer severely injured.

32-year-old Justin Terrazas appeared in Sedgwick County district court for the second day of a change-of-plea hearing.   He pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, fleeing and eluding police, and drug related charges.  Other charges will be dismissed under a plea agreement.

Terrazas made his plea Tuesday, but attorneys and prosecutors were concerned about language of the plea agreement, so the hearing was continued to Wednesday afternoon.   Sentencing has been scheduled for January 14th at 2:30 p.m.

Terrazas was accused of running over officer Brian Arterburn with a stolen car in February, 2017.  Arterburn was in critical condition and underwent ten months of rehabilitation. He returned to Wichita in late 2017 and has since retired from the Wichita Police Department.
