Parolee arrested on numerous charges following weekend crime spree

A man who had just been paroled from Coffey County in October to Sedgwick County, has been arrested, following a crime spree Friday evening.

It began around 9:30 Friday night when police to the area of Harry and Southeast Blvd where there had been a hit and run accident.   About an hour and half later, Wichita firefighters were called to the 700 block of East Antler, a few blocks away from the hit and run, where a black Lincoln Navigator had been intentionally set on fire.

Wichita Police responded to the scene, where witnesses reported seeing a man pull a bicycle out of the SUV, fire several shots into the air, and ride off.  As police were investigating that, they were contacted by 5 people, who says a man had just robbed them.

They told officers they were home in the 500 block of East Zimmerly, when a man came in, pointed a knife, and told them all he had a gun.  He then took their cell phones and drove off with a Maroon Dodge Stratus, owned by one of them.

Police found the car a short time later in the area of Gilbert and St. Francis and tried to pull it over.  The driver took off, leading officers on a chase that ended in the area of 13th and Shady Way in Riverside.

The man tried to get away on foot, but was captured nearby.  The 26-year-old man was booked into jail for 5 counts of aggravated robbery, one count of arson, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of aggravated weapons violation, one count of aggravated burglary, and warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections.

No one was hurt in the crime spree.  KFDI News is withholding the man’s name until he is formally charged.
