Winter weather moving across Kansas

Winter weather is moving across Kansas today. Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey counties are under a winter weather advisory until 6pm. Kingman and Reno counties are under an advisory until 3pm.

The National Weather Service expects these areas to get between 1 and 3-inches of snow, with more snow in Harvey County and areas to the north. Blizzard warnings are in place for most of Kansas, from Dodge City up to Kansas City. Dodge City could get up to 3-inches of snow, with 9-inches possible in Kansas City. Blizzard warnings run up into Nebraska and Missouri.

Because of poor visibility and snow-covered roads, I-70 is shut down from Salina to just a bit west of Hays. Roads conditions and traffic cameras can be found at the KanDrive website.

Today is a busy travel day with a lot of people heading home after the Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to check forecasts and road conditions for areas you’ll be traveling through.

Wichita’s plow trucks are out treating the roads, but be careful of slick spots, especially on highway ramps and bridges.
