Park board rejects bid for Wichita golf course

Wichita’s park board has voted unanimously to reject the only bid that was received for the purchase of the MacDonald golf course on the city’s east side.

The city advertised for bids after local developer Johnny Stevens submitted an unsolicited offer for the course last summer.  The deadline for bids was November 27th, and the only bid received was from Great Life Golf in Topeka for $850,000.  The board voted to reject that bid and keep the golf course in the city’s municipal golf system.

Park board members had stated earlier that they were committed to keeping MacDonald as a public golf course, regardless of whether the 146-acre course was sold or not.
