The Wichita Police Foundation provided the department’s K-9 Unit with a $320 donation this morning.
Donations from the community help the foundation provide money for equipment the city’s budget wouldn’t normally allow. This latest donation will go toward things like leashes and new harnesses for the K-9 Unit. The money came from a woman who recently passed away. She requested that rather than buy flowers for her funeral, that money should go toward the K-9 Unit.
The Wichita Police Foundation is also working to come up with funding to provide a trauma kit for every officer. These can be used help stop serious bleeding if an officer arrives at a scene before a medic does. Earlier this year, a Wichita officer used a tourniquet to save a man who was bleeding heavily after being shot. The requested trauma kits would provide similar tourniquets and clotting sponges to each officer.
