A man has been sentenced to over 50 years in prison for the May 2nd shooting death of 31-year-old Bretodd Williams in a south Wichita neighborhood.

It happened around 12 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Elpyco, near Harry and Oliver.  Police were called to the scene and found  Williams with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told police that as he drove by, he saw Williams arguing with another man, identified as Emmanuel Reed.  He then heard what he thought were fireworks.

Reed fled the area on foot.  Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies who had stopped at a nearby QuikTrip, noticed a man enter the business, enter the bathroom, and then leave in different clothing.

The relayed the information to Wichita Police, who were searching for the suspect in the area.  Police located the suspect described to them by deputies at shoe store just north of Harry on Oliver.

The suspect was identified as Emmanuel Reed, and booked into jail for homicide.  On November 5, a jury found Reed guilty of 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Reed was sentenced Wednesday to 662 months in prison.
