Law Enforcement: DUI risk increases in the coming week

Over 150 Kansas Law Enforcement agencies are joining a national campaign over the holidays to remind drivers not to drive impaired. Drivers busted while impaired can face jail time, suspension of their driver’s license, and costs of around $10,000. That price includes monthly fees such as an ignition interlock.

Chris Bortz with the Kansas Department of Transportation Safety says the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day is one of the most dangerous times of the year to be driving. Kansas Law Enforcement agencies want to remind the public that if you drive drunk or high, you will get a DUI.

NHTSA Deputy Administrator Heidi King says drivers shouldn’t risk their future — or someone else’s — by driving impaired. Designate a sober driver when making holiday plans.
