With a winter storm forecast in western Kansas Wednesday, emergency managers encourage drivers heading west to hold off on their trip.
Angee Morgan, Kansas Division of Emergency Management director, is asking westbound drivers to delay travel plans until after the storm moves through. Up to eight inches of snow is possible in northwest Kansas Wednesday.
“If you must travel, be sure your car’s gas tank is full and you have an emergency kit,” the KDEM stated. Emergency managers say that kit should include:
- Blankets
- Flashlights
- Batteries
- Cell phone charger
- Hand-warmers
- High-energy food snacks
- Bottled water
- Necessary medications
- Snow shovel
- Flares
The KDEM also recommends you ensure your cell phone is charged and someone is aware of your itinerary, including expected time of arrival.
