A suspicious person report led to a short chase early Wednesday, that ended at Mt. Vernon and Palisade. Wichita police say someone reported a man and woman at a west Wichita motel, around 2:30 a.m. They were spotted near I-235 and K-42, and a gun was reportedly thrown from a window during a car chase. When the case ended, police arrested a woman in the car,= and a man who fled on foot.

Both people were from Great Bend, and were arrested for being felons in possession of a gun, along with other charges. Officers found the gun that was tossed during the chase, and learned it had been stolen out of Hutchinson.

The Wichita Police Department is using this arrest as a reminder to properly secure your guns, especially if one is being kept in your car. In 2018, Wichita had about 300 guns stolen from vehicles. 50 of those thefts were reported in the last six weeks of the year. Two stolen guns were used in crimes against local law enforcement.
