Wichita Transit announces new service for Wichita State University

Wichita State University students, faculty and staff will have access to bus service from the city to help them travel to and from the campus.   That’s under a new partnership that was announced Thursday between the city and the university.

Wichita Transit director Mike Tann said students, faculty and staff will get free bus service by showing their university ID badge.   The city also plans to create a new bus route, Route 202, that will travel along Oliver from Harry to 29th Street North.   The new route begins January 22nd.

Tann said the weekend Q-Line trolley service that runs along Douglas will be expanded to include a route north on Hillside to the WSU campus.  He said that will give students access to the downtown area for weekend events and activities, and it will also give Wichita residents a way to get to the WSU campus.  The Q-Line service runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday evenings.

Wichita State has made a financial commitment to the city for the expanded service, and it will run through May.
