A teenager who was injured in a December confrontation with officers in Smith Center has been taken into custody in Salina.
Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents served an arrest warrant Thursday at Saint Francis Community Services in Salina, where he had been held since his release from a hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. The teen was arrested for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He has been taken to the Sedgwick County juvenile detention facility where he will be housed. The KBI said in a press release that additional charges are possible.
The teenager was hospitalized after a December 15th incident at a home in Smith Center. A 66-year-old woman called 911 and reported that she had been restrained, beaten and strangled. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The teen fled the area on horseback and he fired at Kansas Highway Patrol troopers in Smith County. The troopers returned fire and the teen was hit.
