Two groups in Wichita are holding volunteer events Monday to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Wichita Habitat for Humanity is holding an event at Century II to build walls for homes Monday morning.

The group stated more than 100 volunteers will build the walls inside Century II at the Expo Hall. While all of the volunteer slots have been filled, the public is invited to watch the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

“We’ll take part in Dr. King’s enduring legacy of social justice, learn about the need for safe, affordable housing in our community, and help two hardworking families realize their dream of homeownership,” the Habitat for Humanity stated.

Later Monday morning, United Way of the Plains is hosting a volunteer event for teenagers.

Participants in the Rise Up for Youth group will team up with Wichita Police Officers to make “Comfort Kits” and fleece blankets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Center (1914 E. 11th St).

The Comfort Kits will include things like stuffed animals, and officers can keep the kits in their vehicles to give to children during emergencies.
