Fire damages eight apartments in southeast Wichita

Investigators believe a cigarette on a balcony caused a fire that damaged a building at a southeast Wichita apartment complex.  The fire broke out around 2 a.m. Thursday at the Fox Run Apartments in the 1100 block of South Webb Road.

No one was hurt, but firefighters revived a pet from one of the eight apartments that were damaged.   The Red Cross was called to help the families who were displaced by the fire.

Wichita fire marshal Stuart Bevis said the fire spread from the balcony into an attic of the apartment building.  The damage was estimated at more than $150,000.
