The identities of the people killed in a crash in downtown Wichita yesterday afternoon have now been released.

The Kansas Highway Patrol confirms 70-year-old Maria A. Wood and 12-year-old Rosemary McElroy died in the crash in downtown Wichita Sunday. They were both passengers in a car that a stolen SUV crashed into while it was fleeing police, according to the KHP.

The crash log states another passenger in the car, 36-year-old local musician Jenny Wood, was taken to a hospital with a “suspected serious injury.” The driver of  a third vehicle involved in the crash, 65-year-old Alfred Angel, and the driver and passenger in the stolen SUV were also taken to a hospital.

The highway patrol stated a 24-year-old woman from Douglass was driving a stolen SUV southbound on Broadway and fleeing police Sunday afternoon. The SUV crashed into two vehicles on Douglas.

A GoFundMe page says it’s raising money for Jenny Wood and her family and has raised more than $3600. You can contribute to the GoFundMe by clicking here.

“I do know Jenny,” said KFDI’s Carol Hughes. “She is one of the kindest, most wonderful people I know. Keep her in your prayers.”

Police have pushed their media briefing from 10 a.m. Monday to later Monday afternoon, and they may release more information about the crash at that briefing.

Streets were closed due to a fatal accident that happened Sunday at the corner of Broadway and Douglas.

The Wichita Police Department says it happened around 1:40 p.m. when officers spotted a stolen BMW SUV in the 1100 block of North Broadway. The driver sped away on Broadway headed south and WPD chased the vehicle with lights and sirens. The BMW then crashed into a Toyota Camry that was traveling east on Douglas. A third vehicle on Douglas was also hit.

The driver of that BMW was a 24-year-old woman. She, along with a 38-year-old male passenger, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Camry was a 70-year-old woman who had a 12-year-old girl in that car. Both of them died in the accident. The young girl was ejected from that vehicle. A third passenger survived the crash and was taken to a hospital and remained there as of Sunday evening.

The third vehicle was a blue Chevy HHR, driving by a 65-year-old man. He was also taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. It closed down Broadway between William and 1st Streets as well as Douglas from Market to Topeka Streets.
