  • Police say robbery was the motive in fatal shooting of Wichita restaurant owner

Wichita police believe that a local restaurant owner was targeted for a robbery when he was shot and killed outside his home.

The body of 55-year-old Charles Giles was found late Friday outside his home in the 2100 block of West Columbine, and he had been shot several times. He was the owner of Neighbors Bar and Grill near 21st and Amidon.

Police captain Brent Allred said Giles left the restaurant Friday night and returned home, and a suspect or suspects shot him after he stepped out of his car.   Allred said this was not believed to be a random event, and robbery was the motive.   He said police are still gathering information and evidence and it’s not clear if Giles was followed home.  He said detectives have talked to over a dozen people and they have more people to question.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police homicide division at 268-4181 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
