Wichita man gets Hard 50 sentence in girlfriend’s death

A Wichita man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for 50 years for the stabbing death of his girlfriend last year.

26-year-old Dylan Barber pleaded guilty last February to first degree murder in the death of 22-year-old MacKenzie Payne of Emporia.   Wichita police found her body in June, 2018 at an apartment in the 1900 block of North Emporia.   Barber had called 911 to report that he had hurt Payne, and officers found him in the apartment armed with a knife.

Sedgwick County district judge Jeffrey Goering denied a motion filed by Barber in April to withdraw his guilty plea in the case.  The judge then gave Barber a Hard 50 prison sentence.
