A second company has deployed electric scooters on the streets of Wichita.  Veoride has provided 290 scooters for rental use around the city.

Zagster, which also provides bicycle rentals under the Bike Share ICT program, has already deployed 500 scooters and a third company, Slidr, is planning to have scooters available in the near future.

The scooters are being provided under a one-year pilot program in the city of Wichita.  Mayor Jeff Longwell said Thursday that the scooters have had mixed reactions so far, with some residents raising safety concerns because of riders who aren’t following the rules.   The scooters are not allowed on sidewalks or on streets with a 40 mph speed limit or greater.

Longwell said some people have enjoyed using the scooters.  He said the city council will have an evaluation at the end of the pilot program and decide if it will continue.
