Governor appoints new judge for Sedgwick County

Kansas governor Laura Kelly has appointed a Wichita attorney to fill a vacant district court seat in Sedgwick County.

Monique Centeno will fill the remaining term of retiring judge James Fleetwood in the 18th Judicial District.   That term has just over a year remaining and the judicial seat will be on the November, 2020 election ballot.

Centeno is a trial attorney at the Wall Huntington Law Firm and she had previously served nine years in the public defender’s office.  She graduated from the University of Kansas in 2000 and earned her juris doctor from the Washburn University School of Law in 2005.    In a press release issued through the governor’s office, Centeno said she is eager to get to work and she looks forward to working with the legal community and colleagues on the bench to continue improving the services the court provides to Sedgwick County.
