A mix of winter precipitation created a light icing on some Wichita streets early Monday.   There were a number of reports of cars sliding off roadways on the Kansas Turnpike into east central Kansas.   A mix of light snow and sleet was reported in northern and northeastern areas of Kansas.

Wind gusts of over 50 mph were reported during the morning, and Evergy crews were dealing with a number of power outages.   There were scattered outages across Wichita with some larger areas affected near Peck and in Rose Hill.   There were over 6,000 customers without power in Sedgwick County at one point, but crews have been getting power back on in many areas.   There were still a number of scattered outages across the city into the afternoon hours.

The weather also caused some flight cancellations and delays at Eisenhower National Airport.   There was almost three-and-a-half inches of snow on the ground at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, forcing the cancellation of almost 900 flights.

The sky cleared at mid-afternoon with sunshine across the area, but the cold temperatures will hang around.   Monday night’s low will be 13 and Tuesday’s high will be 37.
