Sheriff’s office says K-9 that went missing bit 14-year-old boy

A 14-year-old boy was treated for minor injuries after he was bitten by a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s K-9 that had gone missing Sunday night.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office says the dog was in an enclosure, but disappeared from the handler’s home near 21st and 119th around 7 p.m.  Around 10:30 p.m., a neighbor nearby in the 2100 block of North Parkridge found the dog, placed it on a leash, and then went around the neighborhood seeing if anyone was missing their dog.

They eventually returned home with the K-9 and placed the dog in a bedroom with a 14-year-old boy.  Around 5:30 a.m. Monday, the boy took the dog for  a walk on a leash.

A short time later, as the boy went to remove the leash, the dog bit the boy on the chest and face.  The dog was left outside and a parent took the boy to Wesley West ER for treatment.

Around 6 a.m., the K-9’s handler found the dog.  The sheriff’s office says they are investigating how the dog got out of its enclosure.
