Wichita, Sedgwick County impose burn bans for April

The city of Wichita and Sedgwick County’s Fire District 1 will have burn bans in effect during the month of April.

The burn ban will be in effect for 16 counties, including Sedgwick, Butler, Chase, Cowley, Marion, Greenwood and Lyon counties.   The bans are a part of the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan to limit ozone levels and protect air quality in the region.

No new burn permits will be issued during the month of April, and open burning will not be allowed.  Farmers can still burn crop and pasture land, but burning will not be alowed for trees, brush and debris.  The city of Wichita will have restrictions on the use of back yard chimineas and fire pits.

Live fire training will also be suspended through April 30th.
