5,458 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kansas, 137 deaths

The latest figures from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment show there are now 5,458 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kansas.

One new death has been reported, bringing the total to 137 since the virus first appeared in the state.  The increase in cases doesn’t necessarily reflect new infections but how far the virus has spread in the state as the KDHE and local agencies work to complete more testing statewide.

In Sedgwick County there are 439 cases with 15 deaths.  252 of those patients have fully recovered.  More than 4,800 people in Sedgwick County have been tested.  The numbers in the counties surrounding Sedgwick remain unchanged since Monday.

More cases continue to be discovered in western Kansas in counties were much of the state’s meatpacking is conducted.  Ford County has 869 cases, Seward 606, and Finney 518.

Wyandotte County may reach 1,000 cases by the end of week.  They currently have 896 cases.  Johnson has 513, and Leavenworth 602.

The only other county with over 200 cases is Lyon, which has 265.
