Strong turnout expected for primary election

Election officials in Kansas are expecting a strong turnout for Tuesday’s primary election, with a U.S. Senate seat and a number of city, county and state races on the ballot.

Kansas secretary of state Scott Schwab is predicting a statewide turnout of 28 percent.   Close to 315,000 advance mail ballots were sent to Kansas voters for the election.

Sedgwick County will have 84 polling locations open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.     The county will follow masking and social distancing requirements to ensure the safety of poll workers and voters.    Swabs will be given to voters for touching the screen and making their selections on the voting machines.   Professional cleaning services will be working to clean polling places throughout the day.   People who haven’t returned their mail ballots yet can drop them off at the election office or any polling location.

Sedgwick County voters have primary races for county commission seats in districts two and three, and there is also a Republican primary for county treasurer.  The ballot also has some primary races for Kansas House and Senate seats, judicial seats and precinct committee positions.
