Ark City suspending an in-person class after COVID case

A COVID-19 case was confirmed at Frances Willard Elementary in Arkansas City, and several people may have come into contact with this person.

To fight the spread of the virus, one in-person class is being suspended for two weeks. The people involved have already been notified, and they’ll switch to online learning for the quarantine period. In-person class may start back up on September 29.

“The school district has been following state and local health guidelines and we will continue to take steps to protect our students, staff members, and their families,” USD 470 Superintendent Dr. Ron Ballard said. “We understand there may be questions but in an effort to protect privacy rights, no other identifying information will be released,” Ballard said. “We will continue to monitor this situation and take guidance from officials to determine any further necessary action.”

Families are urged to keep an eye on health and report any symptoms of COVID-19 to their doctor or local health department.
