Keeper replica statue stolen, then recovered

A replica of the Keeper of the Plains statue has been recovered after it was stolen from a Wichita park.

The statue in Planeview Park was one of 13 replicas that had been placed around the city by the group Together Wichita to recognize the city’s 150th anniversary.   The statue was broken from its pedestal over the weekend.

A resident of the Planeview neighborhood called to report the statue was in a creek near Colvin Elementary School.   It has been recovered and placed in storage for now, with plans to return it to its pedestal in the near future.
