Wichita man charged in shooting of Salina police officer

Two men have been charged with attempted capital murder in the shooting of a Salina police officer in August.

The charges were filed against 37-year-old Shawn Patrick Humphrey of Wichita and 36-year-old Adam Drew Humphrey of Leavenworth.

Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt said arrest warrants were issued and Shawn Humphrey is being held in the Saline County jail while Adam Humphrey is being held in Shawnee County.

The shooting happened during an attempted traffic stop in Salina on August 30th.    Police said a car ran several stop signs, then sped off as it was being pulled over. Shots were fired at a police vehicle, and an officer was hit in the foot. More shots were fired at police as they laid down stop sticks on the road, but no other officers were injured.

The men are charged with two counts each of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.    The Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.
