Campaigns end, now voters decide on county, state, and federal races

Thousands of people have already voted in advance in Sedgwick County and across Kansas, but thousands more are expected to turn out Tuesday when polls open for the November general election.

Sedgwick County voters are casting ballots in the Presidential race, and they will decide the races for an open U.S. Senate seat in Kansas as well as the 4th District congressional race.   There will also be two open seats on the Sedgwick County Commission, the County Clerk and County Treasurer races and a number of legislative and judicial races on the ballot, along with some township offices.

The county election office reports more than 135,000 people have voted in advance in Sedgwick County for the general election.  More than 96-thousand ballots have been mailed, and close to 67-thousand people voted in person at the advance voting locations.

The county election office is expecting a turnout of close to 80 percent.  The statewide turnout is expected to be around 70 percent.   Polls will be open Tuesday from 6 am to 7 pm for people who waited until election day.

From the Associated Press:

Kansas voters have cast a record number of advance ballots. The Kansas Secretary of State’s office said 770,324 Kansas voters had returned mail-in or advance in-person ballots as of Sunday.

Local election officials mailed out 508,187 ballots and have received 422,104, or about 83%, of them back. That is more than double the number people who voted by mail in the 2016 general election.

Another 348,220 Kansans voted in-person at advance polling sites as of Sunday.
