The Sedgwick County Republican Party has scheduled a special convention for Monday, November 30th to choose a temporary replacement for Sedgwick County commissioner Michael O’Donnell.

O’Donnell resigned from his District Two seat on November 13th after Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said there was enough evidence for ouster proceedings over O’Donnell’s involvement in a false attack ad against Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple in 2019.

Candidates to fill O’Donnell’s seat have to be registered Republicans in District Two. They will have to notify the party by email by noon on November 28th if they want to run for the seat.   The chosen candidate will serve until January 11th, when Democrat Sarah Lopez will be sworn in as the new commissioner.  Lopez defeated O’Donnell by 264 votes in the November general election.

The special convention will be held November 30th at 7 p.m. at the Haysville Activity Center.
