Wichita library branch closing for move to new location

The Linwood Park branch library in south Wichita will close at the end of the day Friday, and materials will be moved to a new location that will be known as the Dr. Ronald W. Walters Branch.

The new facility at 4195 East Harry is named for the late Dr. Ronald W. Walters, a civil rights leader who organized the 1958 sit-in at the Dockum Drug Store in downtown Wichita.  A room at the branch will be devoted to materials from Dr. Walters’ life and work.

The Walters Branch is expected to open February 1st.   It has 6,904 square feet and will have a self-check station, 16 public computing spaces, expanded sections for children and teenagers, and a meeting room with after-hours capacity.

Customers at Linwood Park will be able to drop off books and materials at the book drop at the Linwood Recreation Center through the end of January.   Any holds placed for the Linwood branch between January 16th and February 1st will be placed in storage and will be available for pickup at the Walters Branch on February 1st.
