Winter storm to bring snow to central, northern Kansas

A winter storm will bring snow to the western half of Kansas Sunday night into Monday, with the heaviest amounts in north central and central parts of the state.

Snowfall amounts are expected to be in the 5 to 10-inch range for the Hays and Concordia areas, with 3 to 5 inches expected from Dodge City to Salina.  Amounts of 1 to 3 inches could fall from northwestern Reno into McPherson counties.   A trace to an inch of snow could fall from southern Reno through northwestern Sedgwick County into Harvey County.   Some school districts in western and north central Kansas have canceled classes for Monday, including USD 487, Herington; USD 418, McPherson; USD 305, Salina; and USD 419, Canton-Galva.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Reno, Harvey and McPherson counties through 6 p.m. Monday.   A winter storm warning is in effect for counties in north central and northwest Kansas.

The Wichita area is expecting rain overnight into Monday, and then a rain-snow mix could develop late in the morning, but it won’t last very long.
