Kansas health officials said Monday there are eight new cases of the UK variant of COVID-19 that have been identified in Sedgwick County.
The cases were identified as people living in the same household, and they do not appear to be connected to earlier cases in Kansas. Health officials say a case investigation is being conducted and close contacts are being notified. No other information on the patients are being released.
The new cases bring the total of UK variant cases in Kansas to ten, with one other case in Sedgwick County and the other case in Ellis County. The first two cases were believed to have been exposed through separate, out-of-state travel.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is urging people to continue precautions, such as the wearing of masks, social distancing, good hygiene practices.
The UK variant is reported to be more contagious although it isn’t known to result in more severe cases.
