Sex offender arrested for downtown Wichita assault

Police say a Wichita man registered as a lifetime sex offender has been taken into custody for a weekend kidnapping and assault that happened downtown.

Lieutenant Christian Cory said officers were called early Sunday to the Royal Lodge Motel at 320 East Kellogg on a report of a disturbance.  They found a 23-year-old woman who said she had been approached while leaving a downtown business by a man who grabbed her and walked her to the motel.   She then was sexually assaulted.

Police found the 47-year-old suspect later in the day in the 100 block of North Mosley.   He was booked into jail for rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual battery and possession of marijuana.

The investigation is continuing and information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for formal charges.
