Sedgwick County to open second large clinic for COVID-19 vaccinations

Sedgwick County will open a second large clinic to administer the COVID-19 vaccine, and the state of Kansas will send National Guard troops to help with the clinic operations.

The clinic runs Thursday through Saturday at the Central Community Church at 6100 West Maple.   Appointments can be made for people 65 and older, health care workers, teachers and staff in K-12 schools, and people in several occupational groups that are now eligible under Phase 2A of the county’s plan.  The groups include public safety workers, veterinarians, employees in licensed child care facilities, aviation and manufacturing workers, meatpacking workers, and public transportation employees.   Appointments can be made through the county’s web site at www.sedgwickcounty.org/covid-19/vaccine/schedule   or by calling 660-1029.

Dr. Lee Norman, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said there will be three teams of National Guard staff who will be sent to Sedgwick County to help with clinic operations.   He said a backlog has been created by additional doses of the vaccine that the state has received, and the Guard soldiers will help in catching up.

The clinic at Central Community Church will operate until Saturday, and then on Monday, March 15th it will move to the Kansas State Research and Extension Center at 21st and Ridge Road, and it will be on a Monday through Saturday schedule for the next two weeks.
