Flood watch issued ahead of weekend storms

Southeast Kansas could seen a few inches of rain over the next few days.

Rain and storms are in tonight’s forecast and are expected to stay mainly east of the Flint Hills. The heaviest rain and storm activity is expected to move in Friday night through Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service thinks total weekend rainfall could be between 2 and 4-inches. As storms move through, they could bring locally heavy rains that cause issues in flood-prone areas. There is also a chance for isolated severe activity with storms moving through Saturday night into Sunday. At the moment, the higher chance for severe weather is mainly in portions of Oklahoma and Texas.

With several inches of rain in the forecast, a flood watch will be in effect from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. This is for most of southeast Kansas, including Sedgwick and surrounding counties, excluding Reno and Kingman.
