The Wichita Wind Surge and Wichita State University have announced the opening event for the new Riverfront Stadium downtown, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of events last year.
Wind Surge CEO Jordan Korbritz announced at a news conference Monday that the first event at the stadium will feature a college baseball game between Wichita State and Houston. That will be played Saturday, April 10th at 2 p.m.
Stadium capacity will be limited due to COVID-19 guidelines. Wind Surge season ticket holders and Wichita State season ticket holders will have an opportunity to buy tickets before they are made available to the general public. The Wind Surge will have its home opener on Tuesday, May 11th when they take on the Amarillo Sod Poodles, a Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Wind Surge opens the season on May 4th, visiting the Springfield Cardinals, Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
