Crews have been working since Sunday evening to control a large grass fire in Rice County. The fire has been burning in the area of Buckskin Road from the McPherson County line to Sterling.
Rice County Emergency Management officials said at least 1,800 acres have burned, and there have been controlled burns on an additional 300 acres to try to bring the fire under control. The fire was believed to be about 60 percent contained.
Roads are back open, but residents are urged to continue to avoid the area to allow crews to work at the scene.
