Emergency crews managed to contain a wildfire in Barber County around 8pm Friday evening.

Strong winds caused a controlled burn west of Medicine Lodge (near Bitter Creek Road and Highway 60) to escalate quickly Friday afternoon, resulting in roughly 1,200 acres being burned.

The fire broke out and became out of control around 3pm, and the Kansas Forest Service was called in to assist.

There were no reports of any injuries or property damage.
