Police issue 248 tickets in special traffic operation in Wichita

Wichita police officers and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers issued 248 citations on Thursday for traffic violations on Kellogg.   A special traffic enforcement operation was conducted hours after a fatal crash at Kellogg and Washington.

The operation involved 15 WPD officers and 12 KHP troopers.   Electronic signs along Kellogg had messages like “Stop Speeding Before it Stops You,” and “Watch Your Speed.”

Police said one driver was stopped for going 73 miles an hour in a 60-mile-an-hour zone.  That driver was stopped again for speeding a few blocks away by another officer.

Police say they have seen an overall reduction in accidents on Kellogg, and they will continue to focus on high-accident intersections, distracted driving issues and DUI enforcement throughout the city.
