The City of Wichita said that the Arkansas River is closed, effective immediately, to all recreational activity.
City officials said that high flow rate is the reason for the closure, and activities such as swimming, boating, kayaking, and canoeing will not be permitted during this time as rain continues to be in the forecast through the next week.
The river will remain closed until the flow rate has lessened.
