More details released on Wichita police chase

Police have a 20-year-old Wichita man in custody after a chase that ended with a crash Wednesday evening at an east side intersection.

Officer Charley Davidson said in a press release that an officer on Kellogg saw a car traveling at 97 miles an hour, and police learned that the car was involved in a recent robbery and shooting incident from the weekend.   The driver refused to stop, and officers chased the car for a short time and then called off the pursuit near Central and Hillside.  The car then collided with another vehicle at that intersection.   The 37-year-old driver of the car ended up with minor injuries.

Three men ran from the car and officers used a K-9 unit to track down the 20-year-old suspect, who was hiding in a nearby garage.   The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries and then he was booked into jail.   In addition to charges from the chase, another charge was added later when police determined the man was a suspect in a Tuesday night armed robbery at a Kwik Shop store in the 2700 block of South Oliver.

The other two men were not found, but officers found a handgun, rifle and a backpack with stolen items.  Detectives were checking to see if the men were involved in any other recent armed robberies.    The men are suspects in a shooting Saturday, May 30th at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of West 31st Street South.  A 25-year-old man was shot when he met with two men to ask about his stolen car.   One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and shot him and the men fled.    The victim was treated at a hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

Anyone with information on the two men is urged to call detectives at 268-4407, Crime Stoppers at 267-2111, or the See Something Say Something hotline at 519-2282.
