Wichita officials looking for public input on city budget

The city of Wichita will be looking for public input in the discussions on a city budget for 2022.

Mayor Brandon Whipple said at his weekly news conference Thursday that a social media town hall is planned for June 22nd at 2 p.m.   There will also be discussions by the city’s District Advisory Boards.    Whipple said a recommended budget will be presented to the city council on July 20th, and the council is planning an evening meeting on August 5th for public comment.   Final adoption of a 2022 budget will be in August.

Mayor Whipple said there will be interesting opportunities with federal COVID-19 relief funds and an effort to restore funding cuts that were put in place last year during the pandemic.    He’s hoping to get some staffing and programs restored.

The mayor said the budget reflects the values of the community, so input will be needed to give city leaders a perspective on the priorities that citizens would like to see in the next year.
