Kansas Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall are among a group of Republican senators who want the federal government to report on the number of jobs lost because of the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline project.

The Defending Keystone Jobs Act was introduced by 11 senators, including John Barrasso of Wyoming, Jim Risch of Idaho and John Hoeven of North Dakota.

Calgary-based TC Energy said it’s ending the project after failing to persuade the Biden Administration to reverse its cancellation of the company’s permit.  The pipeline would have transported crude from the oil sand fields of western Canada to Steele City, Nebraska.   According to Senator Moran’s office, the project was expected to provide around 11,000 direct high-paying jobs and up to 60,000 indirect and direct jobs.

Moran, in a press release, said “Canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline has cost our country thousands of good-paying jobs and made us more dependent on foreign countries to supply our domestic energy needs.  The Biden Administration must reverse this policy, especially in light of its decision to waive sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, and reprioritize the needs of American workers and energy consumers.”
