The city of Wichita held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new reconstructed Harry Street bridge over the Arkansas River.

The bridge was originally built in 1955 and was rehabilitated in 1975, and it was recently found to be structurally deficient.   The city began design work in 2017 on a new bridge structure.   The bridge has three lanes of traffic with a sidewalk on one side and a multi-use path on the other.    A system was installed to provide multi-color LED lighting on the bridge.   Designer Kent Williams said the new look is intended to celebrate the river.

District 3 City Council member Jared Cerullo said the transformation of the bridge has improved safety and it has greatly enhanced the Arkansas River corridor.
