Firefighter serious after west Wichita house fire

A firefighter was injured while battling a house fire in west Wichita Friday night.

The fire broke out around 9 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Douglas, a few blocks west of West Street.  Crews reported flames coming from the house when they arrived.

The injured firefighter, Tim Higgins, was reportedly pulled out of the house by fellow crew members and CPR was performed. While initially unresponsive, it was said that Higgins was alert when an ambulance arrived on the scene. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but his condition was later reported as serious.

Higgins has been with the Wichita Fire Department for over 25 years.

A GoFundMe page was set-up to help with medical and other related expenses, which you can view here.
