A robbery investigation led to a chase and a fatal crash in west Wichita late Tuesday afternoon.
Police were investigating a robbery near Central and Ridge Road, and they stopped a pickup with a suspect inside. Officers were taking the suspect into custody when the driver of the truck sped away. Officers chased the truck for a short distance but then called off the chase. The truck ran a red light at Central and Ridge and caused a crash with three other vehicles involved.
One person was in very critical condition from the crash, but that person later died. This person was later identified as 22-year-old Samantha Russell. The truck driver was not hurt and police arrested the driver along with the robbery suspect. It’s believed the suspect was involved in at least two robberies that were reported Monday and Tuesday.
No other details have been released, and the crash is still under investigation.
