Wichita to keep public swimming pools open through Labor Day

Wichita Park and Recreation officials announced Thursday that the season for the public swimming pools will be extended through the Labor Day weekend.

All pools, except for Orchard Pool, will be open through September 6th with a change in the schedule:

From August 9th through the 15th, the pools will be open Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.   From August 16th through September 6th, the pools will be open weekends only.  They will be open Fridays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.  On Labor Day, the pools will be open from 1 to 6 p.m.

Recreation superintendent Reggie Davidson said staff at Orchard Pool will be going back to school, so that pool will close on Monday, August 16th   Splash pads will remain open through Thursday, September 30th.

The pools usually close as the school year begins, but since the 2020 season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to allow extra hours this summer for the pools.
