Teen driver arrested after three-county chase

A teenager from Hutchinson is in custody and facing a number of charges after a chase that began in Harvey County and went into Reno and Sedgwick counties.

Harvey County deputies and the Kansas Highway Patrol were chasing a 2000 Ford Mustang on Tuesday, and the chase was ended at Reno County.   Officials received calls from motorists that the car was speeding in excess of 100 miles an hour, even after the chase had ended.

Reno County deputies were sent to an area near South Hutchinson on a report that the car was involved in a hit-and-run accident on K-96.  They found the car at 4th and Airport Road, but the car sped away on 4th toward Hutchinson.   The car then went south on K-61 and continued onto rural roads and back onto K-96.   While driving south on Yoder Road, the car forced another vehicle off the roadway.   The chase ended in Sedgwick County when the car ran over a tire deflation device.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on charges including reckless driving, no drivers license, no insurance, and four counts of aggravated assault for the vehicle that was forced off the roadway.
