The Kansas Crime Victims Compensation Board awarded financial assistance to 356 victims of violent crime during its August 12th meeting.

Awards were made in 202 new cases. Additional expenses were paid to 154 previously submitted cases. Awards totaled over $251,000.

The Division of Crime Victims Compensation in the State Attorney General’s Office administers funds through the Kansas Crime Victims Compensation Program, which was established in 1978 to help victims of violent crime pay for their unexpected expenses such as medical treatment, mental health counseling, lost wages, dependent support and funeral expenses.
