Police in Chanute were involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting Friday night.
Officers were called to the report of someone looking into car windows around 7:30, in the area of 4th and Evergreen. A responding officer encountered 28-year-old Brandon Schlichting, of Chanute, who reportedly pulled a gun and pointed it at the officer. The officer fired one round, hitting Schlichting in the head. He taken to the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center and was later transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he passed away Sunday morning.
The KBI is currently handling the investigation into the shooting.
