The Sedgwick County Health Department will begin providing the booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, September 29th.

Health Director Adrienne Byrne said the booster shots will only be available through the main clinic in the former downtown library in Wichita, at 223 South Main.  The clinic will have expanded hours.  It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.    The booster shots will not be available at the mobile clinics.

Byrne said the boosters are only for people who have had the Pfizer vaccine.  There is no information yet on boosters for the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.   She said people will have to meet all of the criteria below:

  1. Received two doses of Pfizer vaccine. (Booster dose guidance only applies to the Pfizer vaccine) and
  1. Received the second Pfizer dose six months before the booster and
  1. Fall into one or more of the following groups:
    • Age 65 years and older
    • Age 18 years and older with one or more underlying conditions
    • Age 18 years and older with increased risk for COVID-19 because of workplace or institutional setting

People will need to bring their vaccination card or other documentation.

Byrne said all vaccinations at the main clinic will have to be done by appointment.   People can go to the county’s web site at www.sedgwickcounty.org/covid19vaccine    If someone doesn’t have online access they can call 316-660-1029 to schedule an appointment.

The main clinic and the mobile clinics will continue to offer the first and second doses of the Pfizer and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
